World of Dumplings

Gyozas, the Japanese meaning for dumplings, are delicious and great for starters or as an appetizer, in case you haven't already tried them. As written on my flickr, I love that the cultures of the world all have onething in common - Dumplings!

I've personnaly tried the various Chinese types including Wontons, SuiKau, both fried and boiled. Also had Ravioli, the Italian dumplings and I'm glad to say that I've tried the Polish Pierogi with meat and cabbage filling, which are wonderful!

The world is filled with dumplings!

My Favourite

I love food, but when ask what is my favorite, it is Tom Yum Goong! Tom yum in general is my favorite. In Malaysia we have it as a soup, we have it with noodles, on steamed fish, tom yum fried rice or vermicelli ... and the list goes on! I love them all.

It has all my prefered taste and flavour, spicy, sour and full of spices of South East Asia. This soup on it's own is delicious and with a bowl of white rice is good enought to satisfy all my hunger pangs and my taste bud. If there is something I have to choose to be my daily meal, this would be it!

The Infamous BKT

BKT - Bak kut teh (directly translates to - meat bone tea) is a soup dish that no one in Malaysia or Singapore doesn't know about. Cooked with herbs it is said that this was the dish of immigrant miners brought from China who wanted a cheap and healthy way to stay strong for their grueling and labor intensive occupation.

The main ingredients of BKT is herbs and spices, garlic and meat (usually it's pork ribs). The rest is 'house special' which normally means it is dependent on the cook of the restaurant. I know of some that uses seafood like crabs and prawns, and others with fish balls! What ever the rest of the ingredients, the basic stays or it is not BKT! Herbs vary too, as now the 'healthiness' of the dish has taken a back seat to the taste.

Vegetarian Sushi

Beautiful and delicate little sushi packages, I just couldn't help my self! I've not actually seen vegetarian sushi quite this interesting. All the ingredients are actually basics that are used at most sushi restaurantsh except maybe the baby carrots and the beans. So it is a great combination and adds an option for vegetarians!

Going Australian

RIGHT - Kangaroo Steak
Might be the most controversial meat I've ever eaten. Some say it's good as it reduces carbon emission being natural and all, and others say it is cruel as they are hunted. But it is real good!
Have it medium rare, I heard that it is the only way to have it
. The meat is like beef without the beefy taste. Its sweet and juicy. In my opinion it's not game-y at all.

LEFT - Steak Salad
This is like the opposite of steak and salad, it is salad and steak. Just like steak that comes with some salad, this is salad that comes with some steak. Makes sense?

'Wicked' Chow Mien

I've done this before - 'Wicked' Chow Mien, but this time it didn't turn out as expected. 'Wicked' simply because it is wickedly spicy! But unfortunately this time didn't turn out as 'wicked' as I hoped it would be.

I made a few mistakes, here is what I think they were:

1) This is the first time I used this sort of noodle and didn't know how to work it.

2) The chilli I used was the large Vietnamese dried chilli which I was not aware, wasn't as spicy as the small ones.

3) I over cook the meat and it's not the first time I've done it.

Well now that I know what not to do, I will give it a go again and see what the results are! Keep you posted!
